Kanatal Travel Guide: A dream destination in the Himalayas
Information About Kanatal Travel Tips
It was a baba on a Bullet who first told me about Kanatal. I had stopped at Devprayag in Uttarakhand, that pinnacle of piety where the Alaknanda meets the Bhagirathi. Among the clamouring of numerous temple bells came the familiar thump of a Royal Enfield Bullet. Astride that was ash-smeared sandhu. He told me to take the road from Devprayag to Chamba and then towards Dhanaulty and Mussoorie.
Between Chamba and Dhanaulty, he said I would find the little hamlet of Kanatal. “Ati sundar raste hain,” he claimed (the roads are very scenic). I’m glad I listened to him. Lovely villages whizzed past, terraced fields, children running to school and magnificent mountain views formed the backdrop for the drive from Devprag to Kanatal.
Kanatal itself is a very small village, but it has become a good holiday destination because there are two lovely properties here. So, you have forested hillsides with just a hint of civilization, luxurious places to stay at, and magnificent snow-capped views minus the power cables and telecom towers that are rapidly becoming a part of the scenery in the Himalayas.
Both properties offer fairly well-equipped spas and popular treatments, and for the adventurous traveler, there are plenty of walks in the nearby Kaudia Forest. Villagers will tell you that besides the numerous birds that can be spotted, you could be lucky enough to see a leopard; pug marks of the cat abound here.
